Media Conference

Lobby of Hill Centre Tower II

Background

Established in 2005 as a legacy project from an Art at Work residency with artistic director Robin Poitras of New Dance Horizons and partners Harvard Developments Ltd, Regina YWCA and Regina Downtown, the Downtown Ice & Fire Carnival established itself as a new and vibrant Regina festival with anticipated attendance greatly exceeding first year expectations.

Public attendance this year is expected to grow with the anticipation building in the weeks ahead. The Carnival not only fulfills a need in its ability to bring together the arts, culture, sport and business communities. It helps transform downtown Regina into a better place to live and play during winter.

Akin to other winter festivals and carnivals in Winnipeg, Quebec City, St. Paul (MN) and Ouray (CO), the Downtown Ice & Fire Carnival draws on the authentic character of Regina to gather visitors and inhabitants, while nurturing our collective identity.
